This mallet gives a positive force forward in woodcarving known as a dead blow with no bounce. Used by my Italian and German teachers, it fits in your hand very nicely and is compact. Nothing on the market compares to the control that you get from this tool. Mallets are just as important as good chisels so this is an essential part of the arsenal for the beginner and intermediate carver. $60.00 2.0 lbs. Calvo Brass Mallet Here is the larger equivalent of the Calvo brass mallet in the classic style. It is a good companion to the 1.5 but with more weight for momentum. It offers variety like different carving tools for different situations. $75.00 1000 Water Slipstone Water slipstones are the most versatile for the woodcarver given the fact that we have so many different sweeps of tools to sharpen. Taken from the japanese history of sword making the water stone allows you to feel the drag of the tool bevel. The 1000 grit waterstone is the workhorse which reshapes and resharpens the tool edge. Water stones can easily be resurfaced by rubbing two identical stones to together. They can also easily be reshaped given all the different sweeps in tools a carver has. That said, these are the best stones for woodcarvers. ALL STONES SOLD SINGULARLY. Recommendation is two for use and resurfacing. $13.50 4000 Water Slipstone The 4000 stone is used for honing and removing the scratch marks on the tools edge from the 1000 grit stones. They are easily resurfaced with two identical stones and can be reshaped on the grinder. The value of resurfacing your stones is that you can get that flat surface to create a flat bevel on your carving tools. Flat bevels are essential in woodcarving. $17.00 8000 Water slipstones The 8000 slipstone is for final honing of your carving tool. It is the equivalent of the strop.
