Pipe Organ Ornamental Screens

I have done a variety of carved pipe organ screens over 28 years. Some in contrasting woods like walnut for a white oak case. The one in the photo above was part of a set of ornamental screens and crowned the organ. When you are working with the massive scale of pipe organs sometimes simplicity of design is in order because you are viewing the ornament from such a distance. My german woodcarving teacher once said, "No one is going to climb a ladder to pat you on the back". I still remember that comment and all these years later it still has that ring of truth.
