NINE-WEEK SESSIONS

For those who live close enough to make the drive, our Tuesday Evening Wood Carving Classes in Gloucester, Massachusetts offer an opportunity to learn and develop traditional woodcarving skills on a weekly basis. Following the same fundamentals taught in the Bare-Bones Wood Carving Workshop, these nine-week sessions move at a comfortable pace, giving you time to learn, practice, and develop your skills from week to week.

Whether you are completely new to woodcarving or already have some experience, you’ll work on the essential skills that form the foundation of good carving: proper hand technique, carving-tool control, sharpening, visual mapping, understanding grain direction, and design. You’ll learn not simply what to do, but how to see and understand the wood so that you can carve with greater confidence and control.

One of the advantages of a weekly woodcarving class is having time between lessons to practice. Instead of trying to absorb everything at once, your hands gradually become familiar with the tools and movements, allowing technique and muscle memory to develop naturally over the nine-week session.

The classes have a relaxed, informal atmosphere, with individual instruction and plenty of time to work at the bench. They are particularly convenient for students from Gloucester, Cape Ann, Rockport, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Beverly, Salem, and communities throughout the North Shore of Massachusetts who want ongoing woodcarving instruction without committing to a multi-day intensive workshop.

Classes meet Tuesday evenings from 7:00–9:00 PM for nine weeks. No previous woodcarving experience is necessary.
